A naval clash several nights earlier between North and South Korean boats sharpens the vigilance of South Korean guards on Baengnyeong Island in the Yellow Sea. Although a tank invasion from the North triggered the Korean War in 1950, some military observers today believe that a sea battle, particularly near the disputed water border, could more likely spark a new war.
